Large-scale trade shows are no longer just about walking a show floor. They are about learning in motion.
At the 2025 edition of The Utility Expo, hosted by Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), education expanded beyond traditional breakout rooms and into immersive Field Classrooms.
These were 90-minute, jobsite-style sessions covering pipeline rehabilitation, HDD safety, and emerging jobsite technology, delivered in active environments surrounded by real equipment, real noise, and real movement.
To make that format work, communication had to move with it.
Implecho partnered with AEM to deliver tour guide systems for trade shows that supported interactive education on a live show floor.
The Utility Expo 2025 drew a record-setting crowd. With large outdoor exhibits, heavy machinery demonstrations, and thousands of attendees moving across the grounds, education tracks had to function inside a dynamic, high-noise environment.
The requirements were clear:
As one attendee shared in AEM’s article: The Utility Expo 2025 Draws Record Crowd and Showcases Cutting-Edge Utility Construction Equipment & Technology:
“Seeing and being able to hear somebody who has more experience than what I do in the industry be able to talk about it in open communication was really helpful”, said Andrew Manes with Trinity Earthworks. “But in addition to the classroom setting, coming out and being able to walk around where he can actually physically show us the equipment that he's talking about, the references that he's making and the added benefit of there being an active construction site here today. So being able to actually see it being implemented in the way that we do every day in our company but also being able to see what's coming next is super important.”
This kind of mobile education requires more than equipment. It requires intentional communication design.
Implecho worked with AEM during the planning stages to define what communication needed to accomplish, not just what devices were required.
We approach event audio experiences by understanding how communication must function once people, noise, and movement are introduced.
For the Field Classrooms, that meant:
Using the ListenTALK two-way communication platform, the education tours were equipped with two-way communication headsets that allowed instructors and participants to engage in real time.
Unlike traditional one-way systems, this setup supported dialogue, clarification, and interaction, which are critical elements in hands-on learning environments.
Because these were mobile classroom sessions, the system had to be resilient, intuitive, and structured for consistent performance.
Interactive learning was central to the Field Classroom concept.
Participants were not passive listeners. They were walking through equipment, observing demonstrations, and asking questions in real time.
Two-way audio allowed:
In environments like trade shows and construction expos, audio clarity directly impacts learning retention and participant satisfaction.
This is why tour guide systems for events must be configured based on operating conditions, not just headcount.
Planning matters. Execution matters more.
Implecho’s onsite team supported:
With multiple Field Classrooms running across multiple days, timing and consistency were essential.
The system had to perform not just once, but repeatedly, across changing presenters, topics, and environmental conditions.
This disciplined execution ensured the education program remained reliable from the first session to the final tour.
Hundreds of attendees participated in the education tours.
What made them powerful was not just the content. It was the format.
Participants could:
Taking education out of a static room and into a live environment increases engagement — but only when communication supports the experience.
At The Utility Expo 2025, audio did not limit the program. It enabled it.
Associations are not just hosting events. They are advancing industries.

Education and operations are intertwined. Communication supports both.
At CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas, NV on March 3-7,2026, Implecho will support AEM exhibitors and member manufacturers with headset systems that enable guided booth tours highlighting the latest construction equipment and technology.
Whether supporting education tours, booth demonstrations, or large-scale industry gatherings, the principle remains the same:
Implecho designs communication systems based on the operating conditions of the environment, not just the equipment required.
If your association is designing:
Thoughtful communication planning ensures clarity travels with the experience.
